So, Bertoni was my local last year, and now it is not...
I really miss the awesome selection of homestyle pasta and salad available with selected roast meats (chicken, beef, pork), salivating just writing about it.
I would often go for the slad and walk away with a salad on the side of a irrestible pasta creation, like bosciola, penne carbonara or rissoto.
One day I lucked out and had the best gnocchi i've ever had here, hand sliced soft and light dumplings of bliss served in some lovely sauce that I can't quite remember!
The coffee is super popular, but a bit on the strong side for me. The pastries are a delightful indulgence that I mostly avoided, but enjoyed once in a while.
The staff are super friendly and get to know your order quickly.
I miss this little piece of Italy in the Sydney CBD. -

Bertoni is located on the corner of Bent and Phillip Sts. It is convenient for local office workers and the like. Service is jovial and friendly.
They have an informal cafe area as well as a sit down restaurant. They offer choices of pasta, salads, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, soups, and meats in the cafe area. As we wanted something quicker and informal we went to the cafe and ordered some pasta. Make your selection and pay at the counter and they'll give you a receipt and call out your number when your meal is ready.
I had a Mortadella + Porcini Mushroom Pasta. It had a nice flavour to it and was a creamy based sauce with large fusilli pasta. -

Great takeaway lunch spot and after-work wine bar. I've had slightly mixed results with the takeaway salads but the pastas have all been delicious! Nice drinks and antipasto menu for an after work drink or two (but doesn't stay open too late, so probably not great for a big night). I haven't tried the restaurant but looks pretty popular. Lovely service. Recommended for lunch and drinks!

Oh the food here is amazing and super hearty. The pasta is fresh and I even witnessed some mozzarella making. The tiramisu was beautiful and the doughnuts - I gorged on them; just couldn't get enough.

The female waiter was rude, full of attitude and condescending. Everything was a hassle. I tried to book a table for 12,30pm was told they only seat patrons at 12pm and 1pm so I booked a table for 12pm. I arrived at 12.10pm and was seated and waited for the rest of my guests to arrive. I was reading a newspaper waiting for my friends arrive, when they did, I placed the newspaper on the adjacent table ( which was empty) . One of my friends had a motor cycle helmet and a leather jacket which he placed on the long seated bench running along the wall. The waitress promptly told us to move the helmet and jacket and asked if I was finished reading the paper and snatched the paper and walked off with it. No smile and roll of the eyes when we took our time deciding what to order.
The food was ok and reasonable value but the head waitress made the whole experience so unpleasant.
